A Favorite Clam Shack at Cape Cod - Sesuit Harbor Café

A Favorite Clam Shack at Cape Cod - Sesuit Harbor Café

Eating at a clam shack is one of my favorite activities when vacationing in a beach town.  When we discovered the Sesuit Harbor Café in the mid-Cape region, we were psyched because the restaurant is in close proximity to where we stay.  The Sesuit Harbor Café does not disappoint.  There are many options on the menu and the entrees are delicious.  What initially brought us there was the lobster roll, which is my favorite seaside go-to dish.  The lobster pieces are substantial, and the dressing is tasty and not overly heavy.  The grilled salmon filet is in an appropriate size and perfectly grilled.  Another favorite is the fish and chips or the fisherman’s platter which consists of fried scallops, whole clams with belly, and haddock.  The seafood tastes fresh and doesn’t have the fishy odor.  The batter that covers the fried seafood is light and crisp.  Aside from the food, the location of the Sesuit Harbor Café is just stunning.  Seating is outdoors-only and consists of tables and benches under an umbrella right on the harbor with a spectacular view.  The view of boats leaving the harbor and the small beach next to the café make it popular with families.  Some tables are right next to the beach, so it’s fun for kids or pets to play in the sand while you wait for your meal.

The way the café works is you place an order inside and go grab a table outside on your own.  When the food is ready, the waitress brings the food out to your table.  The café is cash only and there’s an ATM inside if you need to use it.  There’s a raw bar section separate from the main ordering area, where you can get oysters, chowders, and other appetizers.  The café is also a bring your own beverages (BYOB).  I’ve seen people bring beer, wine, Champagne, or soda.  Unfortunately, the café gets busy and the line to order is long during the summer season.  Even though the line is long, I find that it turns over quickly and this is true with getting a table as well.  You shouldn’t make the trip, if you’re in the rush.  Eating here is fun and it’s more enjoyable when you can linger and take in the view.
