New York Style Bagels from a Local Company, Bub’s Bagels and Breads
If you don’t live anywhere near New York City, finding a good bagel is a challenge. After moving away from the city more than ten years ago, I’ve been struggling to find good bagels in our local area. There are a few bagel shops that produce decent bagels, but nothing like the ones I have grown to love in NYC. I find that bagels in our local shops are too bready and have very little chewy quality to them. Recently, I discovered a local bread company, Bub’s Bagels and Breads (https://bubs-bagels.square.site/), that was started by a husband-and-wife couple who make bagels and breads as a side hustle. Their bagels have the closest qualities of those from NYC. The chewy texture inside and the crunch on the outside after toasting is just incredibly delicious and satisfying.
Orders are accepted online once a week over a 2-3 day period usually over the weekend. Bagels are made fresh from locally sourced ingredients. Then, the bagels are pre-sliced, individually wrapped, and are ready to eat or to freeze for later consumption. In addition to the classic flavors of such favorites as cinnamon raisin, sesame, and everything bagels, they offer nontraditional flavors, as well. These include, but are not limited to, cranberry walnut, sweet barbecue, roasted garlic cheddar, and chocolate chip (a personal favorite!!). Bub’s constantly offers new flavors. If you don’t see what you want or want to concoct a new flavor, you can make a request to them. They will work with you, which is another benefit of ordering from Bub’s. I absolutely love the sesame bagels for sandwiches with eggs, turkey breast, or cream cheese and lox. As for the sweeter side, cinnamon raisin bagels with cream cheese and chocolate chip bagels with melted butter or peanut butter are my new comfort food.
